HERVE PONCHARAL AND SPRINT RACES IN EVERY GP: 'EACH ONE IS AS IMPORTANT AS ALL THE OTHERS'

MotoGP introduced sprint racing this season, extending it to all Grand Prix events. It is a different concept to that of Formula One, where only six races on the calendar have a sprint format. Herve Poncharal, president of the team association (IRTA) defends the approach adopted by MotoGP.

The Frenchman, who is also founder of Tech3, commented to Crash.net - quoted by Motosan - on the opinions that suggest sprint racing moulds similar to F1: 'They say we should have been like Formula 1; doing sprint races not in every Grand Prix.'

However, Poncharal maintained that there are some question marks about this approach: 'If you give Portugal a sprint and not Silverstone they will wonder why they don't have one, and the fans why their ticket doesn't include a sprint. Every Grand Prix is as important as all the others, they are all on the same level.'
